The 7 predictions for Display Advertising

Sep 28
2010

As the Google Display team has announced today, display advertising is going to be very different 5 years from now. The predictions for 2015 are:

  1. 50% of investment on display will include cost per video advertising. Yep, Youtube is going to be monetized in different ways. 2 new formats were presented today and basically we’ll be able to predict the videos you’re going to watch.
  2. 75% of ads will be “social” in nature. All user will be able to share, comment on, & provide feedback on ads.
  3. 50% of audience buying real time bidding. Real time display advertising is definitely coming!
  4. Mobile, the number 1 screen: they showed a very cool new feature for Google Goggles. Now you’ll be able to take a picture of any ad on a newspaper, magazine… and Goggles will give you the info about the ad and the company running that ad.
  5. Metrics more important than the click: CPA, bounce rate, View Through Conversions…
  6. Rich media in 50 % of display
  7. Display will be a 50 billion industry.

I’m waiting for the recorded version of the session to post it as it’s totally worthy to see the live demo they did with Google Goggles and some other examples.
I expected more comments about the possible the efect of iPad/Tablets on display advertising but apart from that, I think these predictions are quite a hint of what future will bring to us. However, they were talking about 2015 and I think we’ll see these changes by 2013.
What do you think?

Very smart app for Twitter

Sep 26
2010

I believe Twitter is a tool. We receive and share information in a fast, short and efficient way. I also believe finding good Twitters is the most important part!

When finding interesting tweets, I sometimes check what people I follow, are following themselves. I’m sure you’ve tried this at some point and it’s kind of a hard job right? First check the list of people you follow and click on each of them to see who they’re following… then you go back, check again etc. Boring.

However, we don’t have to do that anymore. TwtRoulette, designed by Shervin Pishevar allows you to see what other people see when they log into their Twitter account. Nice and easy and great tool to optimize you own Twitter account.
Maybe you’re wondering… what If I don’t want to share my twitter? Don’t worry, you have to add yourself to the directory voluntarily.

Lucky me, I wanted to check Brad Feld’s twitter account and voilà:

Are iPads and tablets the end of laptops?

Sep 20
2010

Quite an open discussion right?
Can we really consider iPads or tablets a full substitute of a laptop? Obviously not now.
Well for those who only check the email, read the newspaper online and follow their social networks, it definitely is!
But for those using applications (advance applications) is not really a substitute… for now.
Programming and anything related to introducing data by typing is not really made for tablets/iPads.
However, video and image editing is perfect! I’d love to work directly with my hands in photoshop instead of using the mouse!
Even Microsoft Office could be adjusted to work in a tablet. Could you imagine preparing a Power Point presentation with your hands? I get goosebumps!
Actually, whenever I see myself using an iPad I see “the future me”. Do you remember that scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise is able to manage files and data in an interactive digital interface?

I truly believe we’ll get to that point and iPad are the beginning. But well, let’s continue with the present!
So, are iPads/tablets the future laptops?? I think they will be for a domestic use only. I’m in love with MacBook Pro but ey!, give me an iPad with Lighroom, Filezilla, Photoshop, VLC and NetNewsWire and my laptop will end up old and alone!
